Karen and I learned to fly in 1997. Early in our flight training, we bought a beautiful 1979 Cessna 182, N117EE. We flew this plane throughout our flight training, and on our checkrides. We still own N117EE today and consider ourselves active pilots. Fast forward several hundred flight time hours later ... our family was camped under the wings of N117EE at Oshkosh 2001. We walked the rows of kitplane manufacturers. We took several of the kitbuilding seminars and visited EVERY vendor. With the family in tow, it was a 10 day Airventure we enjoyed to the point of daily exhaustion. One day, a rainstorm forced us into Van's tent and we left with the certainty that if we ever did decide to build, it would be an RV.

We ordered our RV7 empennage kit #340 shortly after returning from OSH, and ordered the QB kit when we were about half done with the empennage. We took delivery of the QB wings and fuselage in February of 2002.

We have been inspired by all the other homebuilders who came before us. Several homebuilder's websites have been a real inspiration to us and we encourage you to visit them to examine the leading edge of homebuilding skills, workmanship and dedication to quality. We have included links to these on the links tab; my favorites are those of Dan Checkoway, Sam Buchanan and Phil Birkelbach.

Our Skylane and Karen at the hangar in Nevada.

Flying in Nevada in November 2000.

Bob just finished a 'Young Eagle' flight with the children of this family in Independence, Oregon.  He flew sixteen kids that day, in September, 2004.

Flying with some friends in Nevada: Randy McCoy in the super Supercub, and Brad Wigglesworth in the RV 4.

Bob and Karen on the bank of the Big Susitna River, Talkeetna, Alaska, 2002: Mount McKinley in background.

We flew the family in to Kennecott, AK.  Karen's uncle Ken, on the right of the five, flew a 172 with Bob's mom and stepdad, Tom, on the far left.  Alicia and Eric bracket Bob in the center.

The Skylane at Fort Nelson.  Hard to believe we were 'weathered-in' that evening.  (It is about 9 PM.)  The fellow on the left was flying a PA 12 and had to turn around on the way to Watson Lake, our goal for the day.

The kids and uncle Ken on Wolf Lake, where Ken lives in Alaska.

Aerial view of our spread in Nevada.  We had about 10 acres (not all shown), about 9 miles from the airport.  This was summer.
